THE TESTIMONY OF PAUL SIMONS: Well, we were in Ft. Lauderdale playing on the beach for the annual spring break thing, and Stan's friend Gary Schneider told me that some girls who had been in the crowd wanted me to come to a party on the 9th floor of the Yankee Clipper motel. I had rented a Chevy Impala Super Sport convertible for $100.00 for the whole week, gassed it up at 29.9 cents per gallon, got all cleaned up, and, with Hefnerian expectations, headed down the road to the motel. There was no party, no girls, and it (The Yankee Clipper) was only 5 stories high. Later in the week, Mr. Schneider and I were crossing the Biscayne Bay bridge at an elevated rate of speed and were stopped by the Dade County police. However, the officer, on seeing genuine Fender music equipment in the car's trunk, allowed us to proceed with no ticket, understanding that we were late for an important recording session, as had been explained with extreme courtesy and earnestness. Information may be forthcoming concerning the possible expulsion, unclothed, of one or more band members from the Hollywood, FL residence of the Makrauer family, possibly involving inappropriate usage of aerosol whipped cream. Details are sketchy at this point pending declassification of relevant documents and testimony. |
